A Modern Day Master

Recently, when the greatest person in the universe and I were in Minneapolis we stumbled on artist Jeffrey T. Larson's work. We were walking by an unassuming gallery space, which we easily would've passed by if we hadn't seen this in the window:


We thought Wow what an amazing photo, we must go check it out. And it would have been an amazing photo if it hadn't been for the fact that it's an oil painting. An oil painting! There's more:


We could not speak. We tried to speak but it came out like ummohmygodfrmmm so we just walked around and looked at more paintings:



What's remarkable about Mr. Larson's work is that he uses the techniques of the Old Masters but chooses to paint non-traditional subject matters, which makes his paintings feel completely modern. Also I love how simple many of them are and how much he's able to evoke with a single object.
