A Luddite's Treasure
I discovered a website called Life in a Typewriter Shop, which is very much like internet porn to me. It is authored by Tom Furrier who runs Cambridge Typewriter in in Arlington, Mass. I have long romanticized the life of a typewriter repairman, hoping, at one point, to become one myself as a side hobby. I tried to get an apprenticeship with a local old school guy, a bit of a curmudgeon, but it was more of a job for him than a passion so he didn't much want me around asking a million questions.
Anyway, Mr. Furrier has inspired me to post some photos of my favorite treasures. I am not a savvy collector; I do not search out rare or mint machines. I buy typewriters that speak to me, that I want to look at everyday, and that I hope to have restored over time. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do:
